Permacomputing Playgrounds are spaces for playful practice & critical thinking of sustainable tech.

It emerges within a community which want to place technologies practices within a scarce real-world.

Permacomputing Playgrounds operate according to playful culture and the permacomputing principles

❀️‍πŸ”₯ What is their purpose?

Inspired by game/play studies, the research is practice oriented and favors experimentation over result in order to :

<aside> βš—οΈ Generate playtestable commons and narratives based on the engaging potential of playful culture to empower participants in their relation to technology.

<aside> πŸ—―οΈ Raise awareness on ideas and practices that need broader audiences and practitioners to have a significant impact.

🎲 What toys do they play with?

We can only produce new ways of play if the game is large enough to allow agency. Thus the playgrounds cannot be restricted to a certain type of methodologies or standard operating systems.

But an empty sandbox can be quite a bore so we decided to fill it with a modular starter pack of toys and surprises that can used by playgrounds depending on their needs.

As the community grows stronger, we hope that all the players can share their existing practices and develop commons that can benefit to other playgrounds.

πŸ•ΈοΈ NETWORK

In 8 years of tribulations, Fabbula gathered a strong network of searchers, artists, designers, funders and spaces focusing on games and technology.

🧠 RESOURCES

Our curatorial activities lead us to archive knowledge, produce notes and reports, including a collection of resources about play studies and permacomputing.

πŸ› οΈ TOOLS

A basic and modular collaborative tools infrastructure that will turn more and more into and open source and self-hosted ecosystem over time
